Make a difference for homeless female veterans.
The Guardian House is run by the Rural Preservation Company. It is one of two homeless female veteran shelters in all of New York State.
This house is in need of repairs and we can help.
The Mission of the Guardian House
- Safe, stable, supportive and temporary home for homeless female veterans
- Support services to help veterans develop skills, resources and information they need to transition to independent living (life skills, money management, communication skills, interpersonal skills, shopping skills)
- Assist homeless veterans in applying to benefits until they return to work including: health treatment, mental health treatment, addiction treatment and disability benefits where needed
- Refer veterans to employment assistance and help is given to write a resume, how to look for employment and interviewing skills
- Peer support from all the women at the Guardian House
Repairs Needed at the Guardian House
- Relocate offices to convert first floor space to bedrooms to house handicapped veterans
- All walls and ceilings sheet rocked and painted
- Wood floors leveled then covered
- Garage taken down
- Kitchen and bathrooms upgraded
- Large storage shed
- Side and front porch rebuilt
- There are only 2 homeless female veteran shelters in New York State and they each help women restart their lives
- Since its inception in 2011, the Guardian House has fought to help over 35 women fight homelessness, find employment and secure housing
- Women are generally overlooked by many veteran service programs and many do not consider themselves as veterans, these shelters are integral in helping them stand alone again
- There are too few shelters and the ones there are, need repairs like the Guardian House
